‘Chart – Celestial Hierarchy in Arabic Translation’ is a project funded by the European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (GA 101146728).

CHArT aims at breaking ground in research on the making of the cultural identity of Arabic Christianity, a religious minority still present and relevant in the Middle East and around the world. Arabic-speaking Christians of the past, living in Arabic-Islamic milieus, recovered their foundational Greek theological heritage through a momentous translation process, born during the centuries corresponding to the European Middle Ages. CHArT will investigate this process through a case study by publishing the Arabic translations of one text by one foremost late antique theologian, the treatise On Celestial Hierarchy by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite (6th century CE), and charting its entrance into the Arab world.
